The Golden Scarabs (金のスカラブ; Kin no Sukarabu; Golden Scarab) are secret collectible items in Ninja Gaiden, Black, Sigma, Sigma Plus, and Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge.

History[]

The Golden Scarabs are rare artifacts that have been sought after by many collectors for years, including the legendary weaponsmith Muramasa. It is said that there are only 50 Golden Scarabs in the entire world.[1]

Plot[]

Ninja Gaiden Sigma[]

Golden Scarabs are first found on Chapter 3, once Ryu Hayabusa leaves the Hayabusa Village and starts venturing to and within Tairon in his quest to recover the Dark Dragon Blade and avenge his clan by killing Doku.

He is first informed about the existence of the Scarabs by Muramasa, who request him to find them, in return for many valuable items.[2]

Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge[]

The Golden Scarabs make a return in Razor's Edge, spread accross the world, to be collected by Ryu and Ayane in their quest to defeat the Lords of Alchemy. Much like in the first game, there are 50 Golden Scarabs.

Collecting Scarabs will reward 5000 Karma, as well unlock features, such as health upgrades, new weapons, Ninpo and alternate costumes. In addition, once collected for the first time, Silver Scarabs will replace the respective Golden Scarabs. They will give the same amount of Karma, but will not count towards the number of Scarabs required to unlock upgrades and weapons.

Players no longer have to physically interact with the Scarabs to collect them, unlike in the original Ninja Gaiden and their enhanced versions/ports. Simply walking over will collect them.

Rewards[]

Muramasa will give rewards in return for giving him a certain amount of Golden Scarabs.

Trivia[]

  • The Golden Scarab is featured as Ryu Hayabusa's item in Dead or Alive: Ultimate's Survival Mode.
  • In Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge, there is a glitch involving the Scarabs that allows the player to obtain infinite Karma, and it is performed by pausing the game simultaneously when collecting a Scarab. This can be performed whether it is a Golden or Silver Scarab.
    • This glitch has been patched in the Master Collection edition, but still works in the original Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii U versions.
